Pine Lake, Utah

Isaac, Ethan, Cosette, and Ryan Jacquez enjoyed playing Cariboo, a treasure hunt board game for kids.
It was a lot of work chasing after 7 kids, but it was a blast watching them play with their cousins and friends. The biggest problem was bedtime...how do you turn out the light in the tent? Sun doesn't go down until 10pm :-(
Tossing rocks in the lake.

June 14-16th camping at Pine Lake, Utah. There were seven kids and six adults. Cosette was the oldest at 6 years. The campground was perfect. There was a meadow next to us for the kids to play in and the bathrooms were across the road. The kids must have used that thing 4 times a day, each!

More from Down Under

This picture was taken inside the Queen Victoria Building. It's a shopping mall that's a city block long.
My encounter with the koalas was very exciting.
Sarah and me at my birthday dinner. We went to the Hurricane. Reservations were at 8p. It was a good thing we had them, there was an hour and a half wait. Thanks Sarah and Phil. You're amazing!!

Oz

Rob said I needed to post something since it's been two weeks. Here it is!!

Sydney Harbor Bridge (which I climbed)

I spent 10 days in Australia with my great friend/pen pal Sarah. She and I have written letters back and forth for about 15 years. She's visited me twice, it was my turn to return the favor. We had a GREAT time!

Don't you just love unpredictable events? I mean who would have thought that May 6, 2010 would bring us INCHES of snow?

Welcome to our home...

Emma's been wanting a red front door for a while...
This was our Family Home Evening activity this week.
Only Emma realized how stressed out she becomes when paint is dripped and wiped in places it doesn't belong.
The door does seem to be a bit pink...what do you think?
Rob even painted the columns and garage doors...anything that could be touched up white, was. The awning in the backyard also got a new coat of white paint.

Monster Trucks

The end of Cosette's birthday brought us to the MONSTER TRUCK show. Cosette enjoyed if just fine but Isaac had a "perma-grin" the entire night. Leading upto this time Isaac told everyone he saw that he was going to see monster trucks. It was sure fun listening to him tell complete strangers where he was going.

Below is a black Montecarlo trying to jump into stacked cars on top of a blue bus. It didn't make it...it slammed into the windows of the bus and the cars did not even move.

Before and after the show people could pay a fortune to ride a big truck around the arena. We just stood and watched them go in a big circle.

Just before the show we got to go down to the VIP viewing area. We were not VIP's but no one was checking tickets so we went down to see the trucks...Oh my they are BIG. here is Cosette and Isaac sitting on a tire that was taller than 6 feet high.

48 DAYS

In just 48 days Rob has lost 30 lbs counting Weight Watchers points, Wii Fit, and basketball. He feels great and claims to be moving much easier and is sleeping much better. Granted he looks the same to anyone of us but the scales don't lie. Only 20 more to go!

Emma wanted to make sure that everyone knew he uses a fraction of the insulin that he used to use. On most days he does not even use Humalog (fast acting insulin) He does use Lantus as normal however His A1c results have dropped dramatically and his blood pressure is under control. Dr. West is quite pleased.

If he were to miss one type of food it would be Papa John's Pizza (or Emma's home made pizza which is just as good).

Costco and Sailing

Here is a picture of Cosette playing with a remote control sailboat. She was quite good and was told she was the most skilled 5 year old they have ever seen. Maybe she has a future in racing toy sailboats.

On another note...Cosette and Rob were walking through Costco and she noticed signs taped to crates high above them on the tops shelf. These signs had codes written on them that did not make sense to Rob. Cosette asks " What do those signs mean?" Rob answers, " I don't know." Cosette replies with a HUGE SIGH " I cannot believe you are the only person in the whole world that doesn't know anything." Here is the good part...Cosette asks Emma the same question a few minutes later when Emma arrived and Emma replied " Those help the workers track the contents of the pallet. The Cosette looks at Rob and exclaims, "Mom is smarter than you!" It sure did not take her long to figure that one out, did it?

Coloring ...and EGGS too

Here we are coloring easter eggs for the easter bunny to come and hide while we are asleep. Do you notice one egg bigger than all the others? Yup, its a goose egg. Rob ate one already and it was HUGE. This was not the only thing Ethan and Isaac colored this week.
Ethan and Isaac found a permanent RED marker while the babysitter was helping Cosette one night. Both ended up with RED dots all over their arms. They also colored their fingernails and easter baskets. They sure had a good time. When Rob got home all he could do was SMILE because the babysitter had not seen them yet (it had just happened). She got this look of panic on her face when she rounded the corner to see me looking at them. Isaac said " look DAD, stamps". Ethan ended up looking like a tough guy with a tattoo up both arms.

Recessed Lighting

Rob is becoming quite good at installing recessed lights. Here is a picture of the upstairs set. There is a matching set in the basement. Wiring the basement was easy because electrical wires were already in the ceiling running to the previous lighting fixtures in the middle of the room. Upstairs was a different story and was a lot more interesting. We have a friend in the ward who has done some electrical work in the past but is struggling to find consistent work so he came to lend a hand. It was still interesting!!! We had Black, white, green and red wires, coming or going somewhere in the light switch box.

We also moved the furniture around for the first time in 2 years. We have moved it before for Christmas trees but always moved it back to the exact same spot. Here is what it looks like now.

Wii Fit Works

We just wanted to post a quick notice that Wii Fit works to reduce weight and increase activity. It truly works! Rob started on a diet February 26, we bought the Wii Fit around March 6th. Today (April 1, 2010) Rob has lost 21 lbs with a combination of weight watchers and exercise. He is about half way to his goal which is still not "thin" but happy instead. Emma has considerably less to lose but has lost weight as well. Her goal is much closer to being a reality than Rob's. Thankfully she is already happy with her fitness.
